Sea to Sky Gondola Corp. is the proponent for the Sea to Sky Gondola. The principals of the company have overseen the complete life cycle of countless world-class, large-scale tourism projects. They are now specializing in complex community and resort development projects in the Sea to Sky Corridor. Through their development services company, GroundEffects Development Inc., they have been engaged in the Squamish Oceanfront Development Corporation, the new proposed Coast Mountain Academy in Squamish, and Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley.
Sea to Sky Gondola Corp. is currently engaging (and planning to engage) many local service providers in the Sea to Sky Gondola project in an effort to make this a true community-based undertaking.
David Smith – PrincipalPrior to the Sea to Sky Gondola, David was most recently Vice President and General Manager at Radisys Corporation where he was responsible for the company’s global Media Server Business Unit. David has 28 years of progressive executive management experience in several industries – telecommunications, consumer electronics and office products. His operational experience spans Fortune 500 companies to Venture Funded start-ups. Throughout his career, David has built a solid track record of business success based on operational excellence and execution with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
David and his family moved to the Sea to Sky Corridor in 2004 and haven’t looked back. They enjoy a host of seasonal outdoor activities the area has to offer.
Jayson Faulkner – General ManagerJayson, a Sea to Sky resident for close to 30 years, has worked in outdoor recreation up and down the corridor starting with a summer job at Sewell’s Marina as a kid. He is a climber, a skier, a mountain biker and paraglider. He was the vice president sales and marketing at Arc’teryx, founding partner in The Escape Route (Whistler and Squamish) and Whistler Alpine Guides Bureau, and has worked in operations, events, media and marketing roles at Grouse Mountain, Whistler Mountain Ski Corporation, and the Whistler Resort Association (now Tourism Whistler). Jayson has also held capital finance and investment management roles focusing on overseas markets, and currently holds a position on Council for the Resort Municipality of Whistler.
Jayson has contributed a great amount of time and energy to conservation and advocacy initiatives including his work as a director for Tatshenshini Wild, an environmental coalition responsible for saving the largest wilderness reserve in the world, and most recently his position as chair of the Spearhead Hut Project Committee. He was also the founding president of the Alpine Club of Canada- Whistler Section.
Jayson will work collaboratively with Sea to Sky Gondola Corp. partners to develop all aspects of the Sea to Sky Gondola business.
David Greenfield – PrincipalPrior to the Sea to Sky Gondola and GroundEffects, David Greenfield was most recently Executive Vice President with Intrawest Placemaking – one of the world’s leading experts in resort village creation. He was responsible for the division’s real estate and business development activity in Western North America, including Mexico, Hawaii, and the Pacific Rim. He was also responsible for Intrawest Development Services, providing consulting services to third party resort developers in Mexico and New Zealand.
David joined Intrawest Corporation in 1987 and was one of the company’s original resort development employees and was directly involved in Intrawest’s efforts at Whistler Blackcomb, which has become one of the most celebrated mountain resorts in the world. David was also directly responsible for planning and creating the resort village and real estate development at Mont Tremblant, Quebec. This resort rapidly became one of the most successful new resorts in North America and continues to be one of the top travel destinations in Quebec.
Trevor Dunn – PrincipalPrior to the Sea to Sky Gondola and GroundEffects, Trevor Dunn’s background was in the financing and operational aspects of real estate development. This experience provided in depth knowledge into understanding why it’s critical for community and resort developments to have an ongoing life, and how to go about ensuring that they do. Trevor worked with Intrawest Corporation for seven years, most recently acting as Vice President of Development. During that time, he was responsible for delivering the Westin Imagine Orlando, a $130-Million, 315-room condominium hotel, and was also responsible for asset divestitures that included commercial assets, land, and business entities. His primary focus has been in three key areas;
- Operational planning during pre-development to ensure that all appropriate businesses are factored into the plan;
- Financial and legal structuring to ensure that the operational spaces meet feasible capital returns in the proper legal structure;
- Post-development integration with all of the stakeholders to ensure the operational businesses are successful from the beginning.
By working through this process at Intrawest, Trevor developed key relationships with all major hotel brands, premium commercial tenants, mixed-use-focused legal teams, and operationally focused financing sources.
Michael Hutchison – PrincipalMichael Hutchison is the Principal behind Bethel Lands Corporation Ltd, a Squamish based real estate development company that collaborates with both private and non profit entities to pursue solutions that satisfy local community needs. During his 25 year career in development, Michael has successfully identified future housing trends, conceptualized and developed both residential and commercial projects that have provided considerable value to communities in the Sea to Sky Corridor. As a real-estate developer and entrepreneur, he has extensive experience in determining project feasibility, acquiring land, project financing and construction management.
