Ask The Artisan - Anne Fleet

Ask the Artisan is a weekly feature highlighting the talented vendors you’ll find at our night market. As a new addition to the Sunset Music Series, the Sea to Sky Gondola holds a Night Market at the base every Friday from 4-8PM. The intimate marketplace hosts a variety of local designers and craftsmen in a unique setting.

What do you design?

I create laser cut and laser engraved wooden jewellery.

Tell us how you got to where you are today.

I have always had a “need” to create. After making jewellery out of buttons for a few years, I wanted to create pieces that were more reflective of my own style and surroundings. I took a leap just over a year ago – I quit my previous job and have put my all into my business every day since. I still have a ways to go, but am so grateful for where I am.

What are the inspirations behind your designs?

It is hard to not be inspired by my surroundings when I live in Squamish! The mountains, the wildlife, the beaches, the forests... There is inspiration everywhere.

Describe your typical work day.

I don't really have a “typical” work day… Every day is different. I always start early (around 6am) drink some tea and play with my cats. Depending on what’s going on I’m either painting, assembling, designing new pieces on the computer, updating my Etsy shop, responding to emails, or ordering supplies.

Tell us about your personal style and how it influences your collection.

I keep it casual and down to earth. I like that my style of jewellery can be worn every day and that it stands out, without being flashy.

What is your go-to music to listen to while working?

I actually usually have Netflix on in the background, I’ll put on The Office or something light that will make me laugh but that I don't have to actually watch to follow.

What piece of advice or encouragement can you give to someone who would like to start their own business?

Believe in yourself. It might not seem practical, and it’s definitely not easy, but if it’s your passion then you have to take that leap and just go for it.
