Ask The Artisan- Tim Cyr
26 July, 2016
Ask the Artisan is a weekly feature highlighting the talented vendors you’ll find at our night market. As a new addition to the Sunset Music Series, the Sea to Sky Gondola holds a Night Market at the base every Friday from 4-8PM. The intimate marketplace hosts a variety of local designers and craftsmen in a unique setting.
What do you do?
I’m a photographer. I sell a variety of prints, matted prints, and framed pictures. In the winter months I have calendars for sale as well.
How did you become a photographer?
I suffered a back injury and I had to do a lot of walking for rehab from surgery. I just started taking pictures on my walks for fun. It was more of a hobby than anything at first, but it didn’t take long before I was hooked on photography. From there, I stuck with it. I read a lot of books and took tips from other sources. I recently met a photographer with over 30 years of experience who has helped me understand the many different sides of photography.
What your inspirations?
Living in Squamish, it’s hard not to get inspired! We’re surrounded by so much natural beauty and wildlife.
Tell us about your personal style.
I like to take shots that nobody else ever has. To accomplish this, I use different angles and create unique shots. All of my photography is taken in Squamish. I value the opinion of others; I post a lot of my work on Facebook, and usually, the response I get from my friends will dictate whether or not I add that picture to my collection.
What is your go-to music to listen to while working?
I love country music. However, in the nature of my job, silence is golden.
What advice do you have for inspiring photographers and freelancers?
It’s never too late to try something new in your life. Just make sure you love what you are doing, and always stick with it.
Meet Tim and an array of other talented artists this Friday, July 29 from 4-8PM at the gondola base. After discovering the collections, head to the summit for Indie band Ruffled Feathers.
