Autumn Education Program Update
03 December, 2015
Autumn is in full swing here at The Sea to Sky Gondola and we are very excited to welcome students back to the mountain soon starting December 4th.
Existing programs
Our core programs, Junior Rangers and Junior Engineers are back with students exploring the mechanics of the gondola and getting their hands dirty on the mountain top. Information on these grade-specific curriculums can be found on our website here under Groups > School Programs.
New programs
We have launched two new curriculums this fall: Orientation to Squamishand Education Excursions
Orientation to Squamish is a two-hour program that tells the story of Squamish from glaciation of Howe Sound right through to our modern town. This program engages students with hands-on experiences of old logging techniques and engrosses them with stories of early exploration. Pulling in the subjects of geology, geography, BC history, social studies and political studies, this course is best suited for BC school groups and ESL programs from kindergarten to grade 12.
Education Excursions is a five-hour program that introduces students to the world of backcountry leadership and awareness. Students will learn basic map and compass skills, shelter building, route finding and basic wilderness first-aid. Offered for grades 5-12, with an ability to adapt program for younger students as requested.
Customized Programs
At the Sea to Sky Gondola we are proud to be able to customize our curriculums to fit your needs. Are you interested in the Junior Engineers grade 7-8 curriculum “Sustainable Energy” but need it customized to fit with what you are talking about in your grade 4 class? We can help you with that.
Maybe you want to combine some of the history curriculum into a Junior Rangers program? No problem. We will work with you to make sure your experience is as relevant and unique as possible and coincides with what you are teaching in your classroom.
Familiarization Visits
Never been to the Sea to Sky Gondola and want to come see what we are all about before bringing your class up? We welcome teachers to visit us and join our Educational Developer on a private tour. Contact for more information.
Spirit of Christmas
Bring your class up to experience our mountain-top Spirit of Christmas event series. Beginning December 4th, we invite classes to participate in some of our Christmas activities including Christmas story-telling, presented by the Squamish Public Library, and our Spirit of Christmas Forest Walk; combine Christmas activities with a curriculum or enjoy the Spirit of Christmas as its own day.
Bonus!
We are excited to extend a complimentary ticket to students who participate in our educational curriculums. At the end of their program, students can bring home a ticket to return with their families at a later date and continue to share the knowledge.
