February Construction Re-Cap

04 March, 2014

Another month has past and we are narrowing down on our May 16th opening. Unlike the rest of winter, February brought snow and there was no shortage of it!

We were prepared for the snow to start falling in November so our construction crews were able to work through the tough conditions and stay on track for our opening day.

Shovelling the Suspension Bridge

Shoveling the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge, good thing Andrew is not afraid of heights!

At the Summit Lodge, we have nearly finished with dry walling, and have started installing electrical fixtures, lighting and switches. All of the plumbing in the Summit Lodge is completely roughed in, and we are waiting for toilets, sinks, etc. to arrive soon! The Summit Viewing Platform is now complete with stairs connecting the upper and lower levels, as well as the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge. Measurements have been taken for all of the railings, which are being built off-site and will arrive soon to replace the temporary construction railings currently in place.

The buildings at Basecamp are being painted and having all of the final touches added to them. IT systems including wireless Internet and networking are being set up at the base and our operations and administration staff should be in their offices any day. The kitchen equipment for the Basecamp Café has also arrived and is currently being installed.

The equipment for the water system at the base has arrived and will be installed and tested soon. We are also nearly finished grading the parking area at Basecamp with curbs, sidewalks, and cedar fencing being built when the weather permits.

The gondola

The gondola on its 100th birthday!

Other exciting news, our dear gondola had it’s 100th birthday on February 27th as it reached it’s 100 hour mark of operations! And with just over 2 months to go until our grand opening, we are starting to bring more and more staff onboard, so please check our careers page (www.seatoskygondola.com/about-sea-sky/careers) if you are interested in joining our team.
