Ice Skating on Wonderland LakeA First for the Books
28 January, 2025
UPDATE: Wonderland Lake is now closed for the season.
Big news—Wonderland Lake is officially open for ice skating! As of January 21st, 2025, you can finally skate across the frozen surface of this stunning spot at the Summit. We’re offering the outdoor rink for both hockey and ice skating - so whether you’re there to skate or join in on a game of shinny, there’s space for everyone to enjoy this very cool winter experience. It’s a moment we’ve been waiting for, and we’re beyond excited to share it with you.
Everything You Need to Know Before You Hit the Ice
Alright, here’s the lowdown so you’re fully prepped for skating at the Summit. First thing’s first – we don’t have any skate rentals at the Summit, so make sure you bring your own skates. Helmets are not required however, we highly recommend you bring one because as always, safety first. Getting there is easy – take the access road right down to the lake, it takes approximately 15 minutes. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to take in some stunning views along the way, trek around 11 minutes down the Wonderland Loop Trail. Just be sure to bring or rent microspikes/crampons at the Summit if you choose that option, because it can be icy.
The outdoor rink will be open every day from 10 AM to 4PM - be sure to check our Daily Conditions page for the latest updates. We will keep skating open for as long as possible however, we want to make sure the ice stays safe and solid.

Behind the Scenes: Preparing Wonderland Lake for Skating
Aidan and Dan gave us an inside look at the four-day preparation process involved in getting Wonderland Lake ready for skating. The process started with clearing snow from the lake’s surface, followed by testing the ice thickness in three different spots. The ice measured between 10 and 13 inches thick, which is more than thick enough to create a safe skating surface. Then we got to work on the high spots, chipping away at the ice, and smoothing things out repeatedly.
This has definitely been no small task but the result was worth every bit of effort. Wonderland Lake is fully transformed into a beautiful, family-friendly ice rink, now ready to welcome all skaters.
We’re so excited for you to experience Wonderland Lake’s first-ever skating season. It’s truly a special place to be this winter. Bring your friends and family and enjoy an authentic outdoor skating experience. See you on the ice!
