Living and Working in Spectacular Squamish

25 February, 2015

Guest blog by Christian Thomson, founder of the Canadian Internet Marketing Conference, and local entrepreneur.

The sun is rising behind the Stawamus Chief, it's quiet, and you’re surrounded by mountains and the smell of your morning coffee. You recess to walk the dog, jump in the lake or hit the trails. You meet clients 885m above Howe Sound thanks to the new Sea to Sky Gondola. You share office space with wildlife. You’re plugged in, connected and productive. This is the life of a Squamish entrepreneur. This is my life. Squamish has become home to a growing number of people just like me. Entrepreneurs and small-business owners, each looking for the same thing: a balance between where we work and where we play. Some of us were born here. Others, like me, moved to Squamish for its recreational lifestyle, affordable housing and a close-knit family-friendly community that reminds us of home. Our location can’t be beat. We are situated between a world-class ski destination and one of the most desirable cities in the world. The recreational opportunities are endless. We can snowboard, bike, ski or hike within 10 minutes of one another and still be close enough to a city centre. We can work longer days knowing we can top them off with kitesurfing, a beer at the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola or a hike up the renowned Chief. That opportunity also means business. More people are choosing Squamish which means more businesses and more opportunities. Last year alone, we saw the grand opening of the Sea to Sky Gondola, one of BC’s most exciting new attractions, the relocation of Pinkbike, the world’s largest online mountain biking community and website as well as other new ventures including the Canadian Internet Marketing Conference which will bring companies like Google, Hootsuite, Indiegogo and LinkedIn to Squamish in the last weekend of March, 2015. Squamish is one of the youngest and fastest growing populations in BC with 60% of its population under the age of 40. We are educated, family-oriented, active and resourceful. We are growing. I’m proud to live in a community where I am inspired by the people as much as the landscape. As the CEO of a full-service internet marketing agency and founder of the Canadian Internet Marketing Conference, my office can be anywhere, but there isn’t anywhere I’d rather be. Learn how to effectively market your business, at the Canadian Internet Marketing Conference, so you can enjoy the flexibility of working from anywhere. The Sea to Sky Gondola is a proud sponsor of the 2015 Canadian Internet Marketing Conference. March 28 & 29, 2015.
