Lots on the Go...
25 April, 2013
Last month was a busy one! Construction started on the base area and members of the team traveled to Switzerland and Austria on a shopping trip of sorts. Austria is home to Doppelmayr headquarters and the team went to finalize the details and purchase the Doppelmayr Gondola that is to be installed on site.
They then travelled to Switzerland to make their selection on the gondola cabins. The gondola cars are the newest state of the art cabins in the industry, the Omega IV 8 passenger cabins. You can choose from a number of options, even Recaro racing seats if you wanted them! The team chose comfy seats, nice carpet, a killer colour, and of course, tinted windows. The views, comfort and ride in these cabins is first class.
The Doppelmayr factory was simply amazing to see especially the giant robotic welders putting together bullwheels and other huge components that make up a modern lift. The technology of manufacturing is as interesting as the technology of the lift design. The gondola line is currently being prepped and the gondola towers are expected to arrive on site in August.
At the top terminal area, the snow is finally starting to melt and the team is surveying for the new hiking trails and the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge. Construction on the top terminal and the Summit Lodge is expected to start in early May.
The Sea to Sky Gondola team has also officially moved into the new office located in the Cornerstones Building on Cleveland Avenue in downtown Squamish. Look for the Sea to Sky Gondola sign on the building next time you are driving down Cleveland Avenue!
