Sea to Sky Gondola: Update
29 April, 2014
This feat of engineering and exploration right on our doorstep has seen its share of critique, but the latest video from the Sea to Sky gondola team shows just how much (or rather how little) infrastructure they have added to the natural habitat. The result is a true marvel – stunning views from observation decks, a variety of hiking trails for every ability, and the Sky Pilot suspension bridge high above the ground.
The company’s website highlights not only their new toy, but also the drive from Vancouver as a “must-see”. So many people have never explored the region immediately around them (though this phenomenon is not limited to Vancouverites – sometimes you just stop noticing the Eiffel Tower when you live in Paris), and the video does justice to the beauty of Howe Sound and other inlets. It really is one of the best drives in the world, and it doesn’t need to be a sunny day: the majesty of these mountains is almost amplified when the mist is roiling around them.
Unlike so many things in life, the Sea to Sky Gondola project has stayed true to schedule, and will be open to the public on May 16th. Day tickets and season passes are now for sale, and reasonably priced (though, for under $100, I’d splurge for the Season’s pass, as there’s no way you could do everything on a single day).
