Sea to Summit Series Hiker Profile: Martin Côté
31 July, 2018
The Sea to Summit Series is in full swing at the gondola and there have been some impressive times and even more impressive stories.
In the lead with the most number of hikes completed is Squamish local Martin Côté. Here is his Sea to Summit story.
"Three months away from my wedding to my Fiancée Raina, a hair stylist here in Squamish, the Sea to Summit challenge has become my bi-weekly cardio workout to get ready for the big day. I love the hike and the burn I get right from the beginning. It's fun to be able to be competitive against my previous times and always try to better my times.
This hot weather really makes the hike more challenging but I keep telling myself that the only easy hike was your last one, so push harder and run faster. If i don't feel a little queasy at the top...i didn't push hard enough haha. As a heavy duty mechanic apprentice at Miller Capilano here in town, I'm often working outside and catch myself looking at the gondola, always looking forward to my next run up, even if ive already had a long hot day at work. My favourite weather for the hike is the misty rainy days but nothing beats the views on blue sky days like we've been having lately.
Thank you to the Sea to Sky Gondola team and Helly Hansen for making this race series possible. I'll see you Saturday morning! Sure is hard work for a free coffee but it's worth it!
Thanks so much for being a part of the Sea to Summit Series Martin! If you want to join the challenge, get a timing card from Guest Services and join us for a hike on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday morning.
