Squamish to evolve as a Sea to Sky High Destination
14 January, 2014
Squamish has long been recognized as a paradise for rock-climbers, mountain bikers and hiking enthusiasts from around the world. With statuesque cliff faces and towering waterfalls, the terrain is a photographers dreamscape. Known widely as the "“outdoor recreation Capital of Canada”, the municipality is finally gaining attention from families and young entrepreneurs who are choosing to call Squamish home.
Undoubtedly, the area is situated between two of British Columbia's crown jewels as far as international tourist traffic is concerned, as is a hop, skip and a jump if a resident chose to commute into the nearby village of Whistler or Metro Vancouver for business.
Now, with the construction of a $22 million dollar gondola, we can literally transport 100's of thousands of visitors through some of our lushest rainforests with ease. Visitors will be privy to birds-eye views of the spectacular Howe Sound fjord, layered between the dramatic cliffs of the Chief and the glorious Shannon Falls. “It will provide access to a playground unlike any other. Many are expecting this to be the transformational statement to the outside world that Squamish is so much more than its past”, said Jayson Faulkner, project GM.
Families and visitors with puppies will be welcomed with tails wagging, as the Sea to Summit Trail up the mountain will be doggie-friendly, as will a relaxing ride down. Look forward to a “Buster the Dog” pass. The annual ticket will costs $25, of which $15 will go toward the Squamish SPCA.
