#SSGCelebrations Winners

21 May, 2015

To celebrate our first birthday we asked guests for personal photo's and stories of how they celebrated at the gondola over the past year. To be entered into the contest particpants used the hashtag #SSGCelebrations so we could track the submissions. Thank you to everyone who shared special moments with us, including engagements, weddings, family bonding, birthdays, hiking, running and enjoying the accessibility that the gondola has to offer.

To our winners Marcia Kent, Travis Ponkey and Josaine Boutin thank you for taking the time to share your heartfelt stories.

Marcia Kent:

"Last year Sea To Sky Gondola helped make a patient of mine's last wish come true along with Squamish Hospice Society. I am a nurse at Squamish Hospital and the patient I was looking after was palliative. He had no family and his last wish was to go up the new Sea to Sky Gondola before he passed away. I called up the gondola and told them my patient's wish. The staff gave him and one other person two tickets to go up the Gondola and bought him a t-shirt in the gift shop to have. I will never forget how magical it was having this man be able to make it up the gondola to see the views he had seen logging many years ago. I will never forget riding up the gondola with him and watching him quietly look at the scenery and then burst into tears at it's beauty. We were able to take him across the suspension bridge in his wheelchair because he was too weak to walk the entire distance. He was so happy when we came back to the hospital, he wore his gondola t-shirt for the rest of his days and this very photo that I took with him and the hospice volunteer, was framed at his bedside for him to look and and remember. He wanted me to write a "Daffodil" in the paper to thank the gondola as part of his final wish, so we wrote it together and the Chief published it in the "Darts and Daffodils." From the bottom of my heart, thank you Sea To Sky Gondola for making this patient's wish come true, it is a memory in my career as a nurse that I will cherish forever."

Travis Ponkey:

"Last summer my wife was home with our newborn and I had taken a few weeks paternity leave to help our expanded family settle in. In celebration of becoming a brand new big sister, I took my eldest on a special date up the Sea to Sky Gondola for what would become the first of many mornings of just the two of us. It really was a much needed retreat from the intensity of having a new baby in the house (for both of us), and on this particular misty morning it looked like we were on top of the clouds. The Gondola is still one of her favourite places to visit!"

Josaine Boutin:

"Friends reunited from far and near,
for a tough hike and a pint of beer.
Celebrating the beauty of BC's trails,
climbing, hiking and a few bails.
Spending time with such great friends,
cheers to more fun weekends!"

We look forward to sharing more memroies with all of you. We've had a great first year, learned a lot and we couldn't have done it without the community's support!
